Short Biography

Sara Lei Sparre, PhD, is a social anthropologist and Assistant Professor at the Department of Anthropology, Aarhus University in Denmark. She is currently a visiting research fellow at the Department of Cultural and Social Anthropology at University of Vienna. Her current research concerns care of ageing migrants at the intersection of immigrant families and public welfare programs in Denmark. She holds her PhD from Department of Anthropology at University of Copenhagen, and has previously held a position as assistant professor at Roskilde University in Denmark. She has been co-investigator in two larger research projects, including an international EU-funded project. Overall, her fields of interests stem from long-term research experience in the Middle East and Denmark, and her areas of expertise are the anthropology of Islam, Christianity and interfaith relations; youth, age and generations; political activism, citizenship and the (welfare) state; ethnic and religious minorities; and ageing and care among ethnic minorities.
