Short Biography
Eline Castelijns holds a BBA in Public Administration and an MSc in International Development Studies, with a focus on sociology and anthropology of development and change, particularly regarding land issues, indigeneity and power relationships in Southern Africa. In 2019 she started her PhD project entitled 'Land deals, residents' voices and entangled landscapes: Diverse engagements of rural residents in Zambia with processes of large-scale land acquisition' at the University of Vienna's Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, and since 2022 she holds a two-year DOC fellowship from the Austrian Academy of Sciences. For her PhD project, Eline studies the various engagements of rural residents in an area within Zambia's Central Province with several large-scale land acquisitions for agriculture, mining and other purposes over a period of several years.
