Abstract

The introduction summarizes the outcome of an international convention that was organized on February 20 and 21 2014 by the Historical Institute of the University Potsdam in connection with the Roman Institute of the Gorres-Gesellschaft at the Campo Santo Teutonico (Vatican) and delineates further developments in the research on this field.
