Welcome to the pop-up exhibition “Politics of (In)visibility”!
On June 21, Master students of the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology of the University of Vienna will present the short films they made this semester during the course “Politics of (In)visibility”.
The pop-up exhibition will take place on Tuesday June 21 from 17.00 to 19.00 hrs. at the courtyard of the Volkskundemuseum. The exhibition will take place simultaneously with the museum’s Mostothek (wine tasting club), and the films will be made available for viewing on the own smartphones of the visitors. We hope that some of you will join us, to see the films and perhaps to taste some Viennese wine!
As a background:
In the course “Politics of (In)visibility”, students read theories and ethnographic case studies to think about diverse practices of seeing, showing, and concealing in the realm of the state, the media, and in the everyday life of people. From these readings, students choose a conceptual lens to conduct a small-scale research project into a collection of visual representations. Their findings are presented in the form of a short argumentative montage film.
