Short Biography

Elena Davydova is a PhD Student at the Department for Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Vienna, a Research Fellow at the Arctic Research Center, Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography, Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint-Petersburg, and Research Fellow at Scientific and Educational Center "Circumpolar Chukotka", Chukotka branch of the North-Eastern Federal University in Anadyr. Since 2022 she works in the ERC project “INFRANORTH - Building Arctic Futures”, supervised by Professor Peter Schweitzer. Her PhD project will investigate the role of transport infrastructures in foodways in remote Russian Arctic communities. She graduated from the Department of Ethnography and Anthropology of the Saint-Petersburg State University in 2012. In 2015 Elena Davydova defended her degree of kandidat nauk in ethnology at Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography, Russian Academy of Sciences. She conducted a long-term fieldwork in several settlements of Chukotka autonomous area in Russia. Since 2017 she participated in several projects supported by the Russian Science Foundation that investigated food, supply and small-scale energy regimes in relatively remote communities of the Russian Arctic.

Elena Davydova is a member of the Association of Anthropologists and Ethnologists of Russia, the International Arctic Social Sciences Association, the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences.
